18-10-07 [Week5]

Today we discussed presentation styles and planned the presentations we are going to give to some of our tutors to pitch our FMP ideas.

Me and Kit decided that we wasnt going to use powerpoint presentation like everyone else and that we were going to make presentation boards and bring the products (clothing and footwear) in to make it a more hands on presentation. We are going to have the main piece of music playing in the background to give the tutors a feel of what type of genre our series of advertisements are going to belong to.

Week4 4/10/07

This week we were looking at Market Research companys and how they can help us find the information we need and save us time by allowing us to access information they already have. We discussed reseaching different areas such as competitors, product information and market place.

Some of the things we did in this lesson didnt directly apply to my FMP as I am doing an advert, not a short film or documentary. They are still things i need to know about and practice as they would be very usefull in the industry.

Week3 27/9/07

This week we had to come up with 3 ideas and write propsals for each, i found it quite difficult to come up with ideas at first as it isnt one of my strong points so i decided to go with an idea similar to what i used in Factual Programming last year, this was a skate documentary showing how skateboarding has evolved, different influences and the differences between American and British skaters.
I then took inspiration from 'Clockwork Orange' and decided to plan an experimental horror using a basic storyline of a person going to rob a house and expecting it to be empty but then finding the homeowner inside and brutally killing them in a panic. I would use experimental camera work in this piece such as never showing the faces of any characters and jerky movements, to keep the audience's interest.
After a chat with Katrina i found that adverts are an option for our final major project and this is an area i am interested in as a career so i decided to plan a bright colourful advert aimed at teens and people in their early twenties, possibly for a clothing range, education or a cosmetic product.

Each member of the class then read 1 of their proposals out to the rest of the class so we could hear each others ideas and get inspiration from each other.

Week2 20/9/07

I wasn't in class this lesson as i was on holiday but from what i have been told, the class were discussing constraints of a brief.
Constraints of a brief are anything that could cause a problem when filming, for example, props resources, conpright, health and safety, budget and personal disagreement. They then went on to find examples of insurances needed within the media industry.

Week1 13/9/07

This lesson we discussed brief and what we thought had to go into a brief, we drew a spidergram on the whiteboard and put each element around the center. It was quite suprising to see so many things wrote up there as i've written briefs before without realising i'd put so many things into it.
We then took notes on how to write a brief to help when we write ours for our final major project.
